Noted National Researcher
Speaks on Mixed Waste Landfill
Public Meeting on August 10th
What is the real risk posed to the public and future generations from hazardous waste buried at the Mixed Waste Landfill (MWL)?
To find out Citizen Action commissioned Dr. Marvin Resnikoff of Radioactive Waste Management Associates (RWMA) based in New York City to review Sandia National Labs' (SNL) risk assessment of the MWL.
Dr. Resnikoff is Project Director of Risk Assessment Studies on Radioactive Waste Facilities and Transport of Radioactive Materials at RWMA.
An internationally known expert in the field of radioactive waste management, he has conducted extensive research on low-level radioactive waste; calculated dose reconstructions of worker exposures at uranium mills and thorium processing plants; conducted studies on transportation accident risks for the State of Nevada; and authored the first paper (1976) showing that nuclear reactors would remain radioactive for hundreds of thousands of years.
In June 2000 he was appointed to Secretary of Energy Bill Richardson's Blue Ribbon Panel on "Alternatives to Incineration."
He will present his findings report at a public meeting on Friday, August 10th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the U.N.M. School of Continuing Education.
The meeting is sponsored by Citizen Action and the U.N.M. Progressive Student Alliance.
