For the first time in history, ancient Tibetan herbal teas are available in America! "Tibetan Formulas," in cooperation with traditional Tibetan herbalists, brings this herbal healing system to America through a product line of delicious herbal teas!
These extraordinary teas, grown in the majestic Himalayan foothills, are offered exclusively in North America by Tibetan Formulas. Their partners are a small cooperative of Nepalese farmers who care for the bushes as for their own children.
Their tea bushes grow at the highest altitudes possible, where the cool night air causes them to mature slowly, delivering exquisite and full-bodied flavor. Nature has gifted this tea estate with ideal growing conditions: continual gentle rain, bright sunny mornings and a nurturing mist rolling down from the mountains every afternoon.
Tibetan Formulas donates 10% of its profits to the Foundation for the Preservation of Tibetan Medicine, a nonprofit organization that funds small Tibetan medical schools and medicinal plant habitat conservations in the Himalayas, to ensure Tibetan Medicine will survive to benefit future generations.
Preserving Tibetan Medicine
Tibetan Medicine, the 1,000+ year-old healing tradition which seeks to achieve physical, emotional, and spiritual balance within people through the use of healing botanicals, is in danger of becoming extinct.
Traditional Tibetan Medicine has been taught in remote areas of the Himalayas through a mentorship system that passes this ancient knowledge from father to son or daughter. The process cultivates emotional maturity and spiritual insight as well as medical skill.
The traditional doctors live and work in the mountains close to the medicinal plants upon which they rely for their medicines. In many remote Himalayan villages, these doctors provide the only medical treatment available to fellow villagers.
The problem is that many of the practitioners are elderly and have few students. In the next decade or so, these practitioners may die or become too elderly to teach. Unless action is taken now, a reservoir of ancient knowledge may be lost to the world. Schools must be established to preserve this knowledge and pass it from generation to generation, ensuring that this healing traditional does not disappear.
For over two decades, two dedicated traditional doctors, Amchi Smanla and Sister Palmo, have been working diligently with scarce resources to help preserve Tibetan Medicine.
Amchi Smanla, a seventh-generation traditional doctor trained by his father through a mentorship that lasted 20 years, also was a student of Venerable Trogawa Rimpoche, one of the greatest master Tibetan doctors living today.
Sister Palmo, a graduate of the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute in Dharamsala, became a Buddhist nun after hearing the Dalai Lama speak about the importance to mankind of sustaining the practice of Buddhism.
Amchi Smanla and Sister Palmo want to educate a new generation of Tibetan doctors
to serve the people of the rural Himalayan communities. The establishment of medical schools and medicinal plant preserves are required to ensure the survival of this ancient medical knowledge. The people of the rural Himalayas have little resources to fund these projects and look to the people of the West for support.
