Members: Insurance Alert

For many years, our members had access to health and other insurance through the Hallet Insurance Agency. Our long-time associate, Caroline Hallet, moved to Florida to be closer to her family and sold her agency.

Since the sale, our members have noticed a definite change in service and products. After repeated requests to the new owners on behalf of our members, Mike Teeter, the owner, has informed us that due to significant changes in the insurance industry, they feel they must discontinue their service.

We are in the process of searching for another insurance agent and company. Any Co-op members who would like to submit or review proposals are welcomed to do so.

We hope to have a new program in the coming months (as soon as we can).

For more information or if you have any input, contact Robyn at 265-4631. Thanks!

Interim Board Of Directors Position

The Co-op Board of Directors will consider applications to fill a recently vacated position through the November election.

The position will be filled permanently during the regular Board elections this fall. Any enthusiastic, motivated and interested Co-op members (who have a current membership at least four months prior to the August BOD meeting) are encouraged to apply.

Please pick up a packet at the Information Desk and e-mail your application to Kyle Harwood, or leave at the Info Desk to be put in his box.

Co-op Staff Cycles To Stop AIDS

In October 2000, Ellen Applebaum, a long-time Co-op employee, and Linnah Neidel, co-owner of Active Knowledge, a children’s adventure company, will be participating in a very powerful and special battle against AIDS.

They will take four days out of their lives to bike 325 miles from Houston to Dallas with 1,000 other people in an event called Tanqueray’s Texas AIDSRide 3.

They’re riding to raise money for AIDS service organizations.

Ellen and Linnah have agreed to raise $2,300.00 (each) in pledges by September 15. They need your help to meet their goal.

Please pledge the amount that is right for you (all pledges are tax-deductible) and please keep in mind how far they are riding and how long they will have to train.

Over 400,000 Americans have died of AIDS in the last 18 years; i.e., seven times the number of Americans that died in the Vietnam War. In light of that, Ellen and Linnah felt it was time for them to do something big. They hope you can help.

Note: Pledges can be dropped off at the Nob Hill Co-op Info Desk, attention Ellen Applebaum.
