Help Protect And Maintain Farmland:
Be An Open Space Volunteer!

Would you like to be involved in a working farm? Are you interested in preserving our local agricultural heritage? The City of Albuquerque’s five Open Space Farmlands protect some of the City’s remaining agricultural landscapes, grow crops for people and wildlife, provide wildlife habitat and offer unique opportunities for outdoor education and recreation. We are currently organizing a group of volunteers who can take on regular farm chores, and/or team up periodically for group workdays at our Open Space farm properties.

Regular chores might include cutting those pesky little elm trees before their roots break our ditches, helping in the community garden at Los Poblanos Farm (Anderson Field), or monitoring and maintaining new habitat areas, such as hedgerows and the new Candelaria wetland. Group workdays might involve cleaning ditches in the spring, planting hedgerows and wetland vegetation, landscaping projects, and working on the old Candelaria farmhouse.

If you would like to join this new volunteer group and be part of the fun, please call the Open Space Volunteer Coordinator

There will be a special training for farm volunteers on September 23, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm (location TBA).

Please call by September 18 to reserve your spot.

As an extra incentive, the first group of trainees will get to pick a name for the group!
