Calling All High School Students:
Solar Home Design
Competition
How would you like to live in a home that has no heating bills, no electric bills, and very low water bills?
This is the challenge that the New Mexico Solar Energy Association gives to high school students throughout the state in its 3rd Annual High School Passive Solar Home Design Competition.
First prize for the compe-tition is $250; second prize is $150, and third prize is $75.
Students can enter individually or in teams of up to four. Deadline for entry is March 15th, 2001.

Projects must be finished and submitted by April 15th.
The objective of the New Mexico Passive Solar Design Competition is to introduce students to sustainable building design and construction while enhancing skills in math, earth and environmental sciences, engineering, drawing, planning, and group dynamics.
Students can use all kinds of creative or traditional building materials.
The home designs submitted for this competition must incor-porate passive solar technology.
Active solar design elements such as solar electricity are optional. Entries will be judged on the basis of accuracy and effectiveness of solar design, creativity and overall presentation.
