Bagel Update

by Brian Baily, Bulk/Bakery DTL, Valley Store

Hi, folks -- thanks for your continued input.

Here are my comments regarding Wolfe's Bagels. This is the same thing that I have told the new owners of Wolfe's and now I will tell you.

Wolfe's Bagels went out of business several months ago, and we were left "holding the bag," so to speak. For several days I had no bagels to offer for sale because no one called and no one came!

At this time Betsy (Bakery Purchaser for the Nob Hill location) and myself sought out and began business with Gourmet Bagel Co. We both agreed that their "water boiled" bagel seemed like a fine product. After some testing from employees, we gave it a go.

Now, I realize that some of you really have gotten used to Wolfe's "steam processed" bagel and do not enjoy Gourmet's Water Bagels as much. But I am indebted to Gourmet.

They stepped in and really helped us out at a time when we had no bagels at all. Additionally, I have many customers who really seem to enjoy the change. The point I am trying to make here is that I am not a fly-by-night kind of guy.

Gourmet Bagels has been doing a great job and I see no reason to dump them just because Wolfe's has been reopened. Plus, Wolfe's is under new ownership and I hope that this will be a good thing, but I don't know that any better than you do!

So please… let's give it some time and see how Wolfe's does. In the meanwhile, I promise to look into a packaged bagel from them for all you die-hard, "steamed" fans. Thanks for your continued support.
