Annual Celebrate the Earth Festival:
Sunday, April 22, 2001
Yes, it's only January as I write this, and I was hoping to see more snow here in town last night (my friends in the mountains had some) but we have already begun the planning for our next Celebrate the Earth Festival.
Calls were coming in as early as December from various community organizations working on their calendar planning for the new year.
For me, the fertility of the earth and the fertility of our community come together in this festival as it symbolizes the great renewal and new beginning that is spring's most precious offering.
This year, we will be holding this beloved community event on Sunday, April 22.
Over the past dozen years, this event has grown to its present size.
Last year there were over 75 environmental and social justice groups, local farmers, artists and crafts-people, a half dozen of our community's finest bands and performing groups, excellent speakers and teach-ins on a variety of important environmental topics.
Thousands of people thronged through Silver Street, behind the Co-op, enjoying Mother Earth's blessing of a perfectly beautiful spring day.
Once again we invite the whole community to this wonderful and completely free event.
As there is no charge for booth space to community groups, farmers, artists and craftspersons, people are encouraged to reserve their space early.
Space is limited. Musicians and performers are also welcomed to contact Robyn at 265-4631.
Come one, come all and join La Montanita Co-op in our joyous honoring of Mother Earth at the Celebrate the Earth Festival on Sunday, April 22, 2001.
