Singing, playing, dancing, listening to folk music or telling folk stories — learning about folk music instruments, jamming, or just watching folks of all ages and ethnicities have fun outdoors — it’s all happening at the Albuquerque Folk Festival at Montgomery Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Sunday, September 10, 2000.
The City of Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Folk Festival are joining for the second year to host another Arts-in-the-Parks event. Last year’s festivities were so successful that the festival organizers decided to extend this year’s schedule and add a few improvements.
Beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m., the Festival is located just east of San Mateo and north of Comanche, in back of the Erna Ferguson library.
Live performances, workshops and demonstrations are designed to offer the public a participatory acoustic music, dance and storytelling program, and to share what we call the “Folk Ethic.” Folk dance demonstrations represent many cultures, including Argentine tango, Japanese, Flamenco, Arabian, Balkan and Celtic folk traditions.
Pack a picnic pouch or enjoy concessions on-site. Bring a banjo or a bagpipe, and a blanket.
This non-commercial family event creates a perfect ambience for enriching activities and encourages self-expression, community consciousness, growth and open involvement.
We are a 501©(3) non-profit organization and welcome tax-deductible donations and sponsors.
