ACTION ALERT:
FDA Announces Regulations on
Genetically Engineered Food and Crops
On January 17, 2001, the FDA announced their long-awaited, proposed federal regulations for genetically engineered food and crops.
As expected, the FDA regulations do not call for mandatory labeling nor do they require mandatory safety testing.
The policies, as released today, put all Americans at risk, and fail to acknowledge the overwhelming public support for stronger government regulation of these products.
The lack of pre-market safety testing means that consumers have become human guinea pigs for the testing of genetically engineered foods and products.
It is of the greatest importance that concerned consumers voice strong disapproval of these proposed federal regulations.
Please write your letters today. For more information, visit the Co-op GMO Task Force tables at either Co-op location.
Please call for a moratorium on the planting and sale of all GE food products until rigorous, independent, pre-market safety testing has established, beyond a doubt, their safety.
Consumers have until the end of March to respond to this travesty against consumer protection and choice. |
