Amethyst Luna Junction Cooperative:
Support Alternative and Sustainable Economics!
by Martha Domingus
On Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., shop for your friends and family, choosing non-sweatshop made products. You will see the “Mujeres Por La Dignidad” cooperative weavings, purses, belts and more. Each weaving represents the history and ancestors of the Maya nation of Chiapas, Mexico.
The women say, “The designs represent the universe, water, the elements of nature and Mother Earth; all the things that give us life.” You can also view and purchase “Creative Interpretations” art produced by local youth and low-income adults.
The cooperative promotes sustainable development, through the use of fair and just prices. Amethyst Luna Junction Cooperative (ALJC) is a women-run cooperative whose goal is to provide a center for the community that can become a place to meet people of all cultures. They are organizing a monthly schedule, which will include music, poetry, yoga classes, African drumming and dance, and independent movies.
They are also organizing a coffee and juice shop. “Let’s celebrate and build bridges in our community by getting to know each other and expanding our connections to support human values.”
They offer meeting space and provide fax and desktop publishing services. Come and see them or call about business cards, flyers or invitations for your next event. N.M. Indymedia is using “ALJC” for meetings and as a mailing address.
